Whether it’s unequal access to education to higher rates of domestic violence, women face a range of unique challenges. But by working together and supporting each other, we know we can rise above adversity.
The good news? There are incredible female-focused charities across Australia that we can all get behind. To point you in the right direction, we’ve pulled together a list of female-focused causes and charities to support because we all have the power to drive meaningful change for women.Â
1. Women’s and Girl’s Emergency Centre (WAGEC)
The Women’s and Girls’ Emergency Centre (WAGEC) is a feminist grassroots organisation based in Redfern, Sydney. They’ve been working tirelessly since 1977 to help support women and families in crisis and advocate for social change in the community.Â
Every night, WAGEC provides essential support to 200 women and children who have been impacted by homelessness as a result of domestic and family violence. From material aid to accommodation to crisis responses, WAGEC are committed to helping women and their families rebuilt their lives.
But WAGEC’s amazing work doesn’t end there.Â
Their work also aims to address the underlying causes of gender-based violence. They have been working with communities and private entities on primary prevention activities with a shared aim: to end gender-based violence in a generation.
 Here at Stella, we’re proud to be long-term partners of WAGEC, with $5 from every new car insurance policy going directly to WAGEC. As of March 2023, we’ve raised an incredible $93,450 to support women and families in crisis.Â
2. Her Heart
Her Heart is a trailblazing charity on a mission to tackle the single biggest killer of women worldwide: heart disease.
Did you know that:
- 1 in 3 Australian women will die of heart disease – that’s one woman every single hour.
- Women experience heart disease in different ways than men, often creating delays in diagnoses.Â
- Australian women are less likely to get life-saving heart disease treatment like stents.
- Women are also 37% more likely to die in the year following a heart attack than men.
These figures can feel overwhelming and are made even more daunting knowing that heart disease is largely preventable.Â
That’s exactly why Her Heart has been working to change these outcomes by educating Aussie women on which factors increase the chances of heart disease and what changes they can make to mitigate the risk of heart disease.Â
Through awareness-raising campaigns and strategic partnerships, they are working tirelessly to create a world where women can avoid and survive this “silent killer”. The Stella team are so proud to be partnering with Her Heart, Australia’s only not-for-profit focus on the prevention of women’s heart disease.
3. Two Good Co.
Two Good Co is not just a business, but a force for good.Â
They work hard to achieve two things:
- Create and provide high-quality food for those in need.
- Support, empower and employ women with lived experiences of homelessness, domestic violence, and complex trauma. Â
At the heart of all their good-doing is the fundamental belief that people deserve second chances. And their love of community building has helped them scale along the way.
Two Good Co operates on a ‘Buy 1, Give 1’ model, with every purchase made being matched with a donation to help someone break free from the cycle of disadvantage.Â
On top of this, they’re also committed to creating social employment through their ‘Work Work’ employment pathways programs, hiring women from the shelters they serve and empowering them to re-establish their self-belief and independence.Â

4. Dress for Success
Dress for Success is an amazing Australian charity dedicated to empowering disadvantaged women.Â
They work to improve the employability of women, transgender women, and non-binary individuals by providing them with professional clothing, a supportive network, coaching, and essential career development tools.
Dress for Success offers two programs to help boost confidence and get women job-ready.Â
With their Suiting Program, Dress for Success offers styling for women seeking to join the workforce. They support their clients to look their best with free corporate attire for a job interview, their first week at work, or other clothing needs.
Plus, they’re committed to helping women develop presentation skills to boost their confidence. Through their comprehensive career support program, they equip disadvantaged women with the skills to flourish in the interview process, develop their resume writing skills, and get job-ready.Â
Dress for Success welcomes donations, clothing drives, as well as volunteers.
5. The Global Women’s Project
The Global Women’s Project is a non-profit organisation that has one aim – to do things differently.Â
Since 2013, they’ve worked to empower women around the world with the tools and resources needed to build better lives for themselves and their communities.
With a fundamental belief that education is the key to unlocking women’s potential, they’ve prioritised teaching women about their rights as well as providing them with the skills, resources, and community they need to thrive.Â
From business skills to start and grow their own businesses or find jobs, to financial literacy, to places of community where they can lean on each other for support. The Global Women’s Project equips women with everything they need to succeed.
